Feds Feed Families raises more than 18,000 pounds of food

Members of the 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion dedicated their display to fallen comrade Pfc. Robert J. Near with a heartfelt note, “We as a battalion truly miss this Soldier and awesome battle buddy. May you walk with the Lord forever my friend.” Near paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country in support of combat operations in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Photo by Adoratia Purdy, Monitor Staff.

The Feds Feed Families food drive ended Monday with community members competing in a CANstruction Contest. The 3rd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery, won for “Overall Concept” while the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security took home trophies for the “Best use of label colors” and the “Greatest potential to provide nutritional meals.” Program Manager Tephanie Hopper was happy to announce Fort Bliss not only met its goal of 5,000 pounds but exceeded it, getting 18,916 pounds.
The food will be donated to several local food banks that support individuals in need from both Fort Bliss and El Paso. This is the first year for the Feds Feed Families food drive at Fort Bliss, with such a strong turnout Hopper said she is looking forward to next year’s campaign.
