Pelletier smashes her way to victory in the Hunt USA Women’s Satellite tourney

Third seed Marie-Eve Pelletier defeated second seed Ashley Weinhold in the finals of the 17th annual Hunt U.S. Tennis Association Women’s Satellite Tournament at Tennis West Sports and Racquet Club June 6 in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.
Weinhold was the top ranked American in the tournament field. Pelletier was able to withstand the scorching heat and Weinhold to win the satellite tournament and the winner’s purse of $2,940.
In the first set of the $25,000 Pro Tennis Classic, Weinhold raced to a 5-3 lead and served for the first set but was broken by Pelletier, who won four consecutive games to win the first set. The second set was more of the same as Weinhold held a 4-2 lead over Pelletier before fading again and losing the second set 6-4. During the match, which was played in 93 degree Fahrenheit heat, Pelletier took one hour, 45 minutes to dispatch Weinhold.
