‘Ready First’ aviator rises to new heights

Staff Sgt. Joseph Wilbanks,
1st BCT, 1st AD Public Affairs:

The Soldiers of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, will soon be seeing a familiar face on the Army recruiting commercials, posters and Facebook and YouTube ads.

Capt. Wayne E. Griffin Jr., brigade aviation officer, has been picked as one of the faces of the Army’s marketing campaign for officers.

Griffin was picked based on his military occupational specialty, his sample photographs – and he just seemed to project leadership qualities, said Zennah Jones, an account supervisor with MRM Worldwide and part of the team putting the project together. The photo shoot was created with him in mind, Jones added.

This all started when Griffin answered a casting call for African-American officers.

“I thought I had a story to tell,” Griffin said. “I thought I could provide inspiration – not just because I’m an officer, but because I fly one of the most sophisticated aircraft in the world.”

The aircraft he is referring to is the AH-64 Apache gunship.

“It was an honor to be chosen, but it’s not just about me,” said Griffin. “If they are able to recruit from urban areas because of something I could do, it’s a win for those people being recruited.”
