BMC Public Affairs:
As the Network Integration Evaluation 13.1 nears its tactical operations phase, Soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, attached to the Brigade Modernization Command, are busily performing tasks related to the validation exercise, or VALEX. For most, it means going through the last training on the new systems to be evaluated and tested, both in the classrooms and in the field, and completing certification and qualification on all the weapons systems they will be using during the NIE.
VALEX, along with two communication exercises, or COMMEXes, will last about five weeks. VALEX is conducted to ensure the equipment isproperly configured and operational before the 2nd BCT signs for it. During this time, the program managers of the new systems and the vendors who produced them take steps to ensure their systems are operating properly and are interoperable with other components before handing the systems over to the 2nd BCT Soldiers for the COMMEX.
VALEX/COMMEX will end in early October before 2nd BCT Soldiers make final preparations for the pilot test and then deploy to White Sands Missile Range, N.M., for the final phase – tactical operations – to be held in late October through Nov. 16.
