Dayley’s Update . . .
Col. Brant V. Dayley, Garrison Commander:
As many of you are aware, the nation is facing a challenging fiscal reality. The United States Army will be sharing in the sacrifice of all Americans during this period of economic uncertainty and leading the way. Simultaneously, we will preserve the high-quality of our all volunteer force – active, Guard and Reserve. As the Garrison Commander, I am, committed to this mission and we will continue to provide first-class training for our deploying Soldiers – ensuring we have the most capable fighting force in the world and providing for the safety and health of the families they entrust to our care at home.
We will be operating under a Continuing Resolution which funds us essentially at Fiscal Year 2012 levels. We are awaiting our budget as is the rest of DoD for the end of March through Sept. 30.
Another challenge is sequestration. Sequestration is a law that will immediately lower the budget for all federal agencies in the event Congress cannot agree to legislation that will reduce the federal deficit before the March 1 deadline.
We are considering several strategies to accomplish the task set before us.
We are looking at ways to save on costs while still providing the excellent services for Team Bliss. In addition, the immediate savings will be transparent to the Fort Bliss community.
No matter the choices we make, we will continue to be the good stewards we have always been of the resources entrusted to us.
Although we have some serious budgetary trials facing us, they are really nothing more than another set of difficult missions for us to accomplish. We take pride in accomplishing the mission – no matter the task, no matter the environment and no matter the conditions. Stay safe and have a great week.
