‘Imperial’ Brigade comes home

“Welcome home Soldiers; we missed you,” cheered a crowd of family members, friends and Soldiers at the Arrivals and Departures Air Control Group terminal at Biggs Army Airfield on East Fort Bliss as Soldiers with Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 11th Air Defense Artillery “Imperial,” Brigade, arrived here from their nine-month deployment to Southwest Asia.
“It feels great to be back with our families, but most importantly, it feels great to be back with our Soldiers again; the ones that took care of our families back here,” said Col. Clement S. Coward, commander, 11th ADA Bde.
During their deployment, the Imperial Bde. provided round the clock missile defense capabilities to their defended assets in the Central Command area of responsibility with the Patriot missile weapon system, while improving the relationship with host nations and coalition forces.
Imperial Bde. Soldiers assisted in the integration of host nation Patriot systems through validation of remote launch capabilities with U.S. forces to expand collaboration and interoperability. They also supported host nation forces in the execution of a successful Patriot live-fire exercise, which helped close the gap in air defense integration with their air-defense forces.
The inclusion of host nation forces in local force protection exercises enhanced cooperation and significantly increased the force protection in theater. Additionally, the Imperial Bde. participated in two air-missile defense exercises and two joint air defense exercises with theater forces.

In an effort to shape future air-defense operations in theater, 11th ADA Bde. Soldiers coordinated the preposition of communication assets throughout the region in support of future prepare to deploy order communication network architecture requirements.
The Imperial Bde. logistics shop implemented numerous multi-million dollar contracts in an effort to improve operational capability, site security and improvement, and morale projects in theater. They also provided logistical support to a field artillery battalion collocated with the Imperial Bde. Additionally, the logistics shop introduced an improved maintenance oversight analysis program to revise the critical parts flow in support of critical pacing items that support the air-defense force.
Every Soldier assigned to the 11th ADA Bde. had a hand in the brigade’s accomplishments during their deployment. They also established the foundation for increased efficiency with the creation of a digitized brigade tactical operations center.
Soldier physical fitness and morale are always a top priority, and because of that, improvements were made through the purchase of gym equipment at multiple sites in theater.
