‘Straight and Stalwart’ Battalion changes command

Soldiers and families of the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat

Team, gathered on Bulldog Field Feb. 5 to bid farewell to their outgoing commander, Lt. Col. William Kinsey and welcome the incoming commander Lt. Col. Kendall Clarke. The ceremony began with flowers being presented to Debra Kinsey and Veronica Clarke, spouses of the outgoing and incoming commanders, respectively.

Col. Mark Landes, commander, 3rd BCT officiated the change of command ceremony. Landes praised the accomplishments of Kinsey.

“Bill, (Lt. Col. Kinsey) no one epitomizes ‘Straight and Stalwart’ [Battalion] more than you –  loyal, reliable and hardworking. You were unflappable on the bad days and diligent and determined on the on the good ones. Your sense of humor ensured the rest of us remained sane. You set a course and stayed it regardless of the pressure and in the end, you and your team succeeded,” said Landes.

“I cannot overstate the accomplishments of the outstanding Soldiers of the ‘Straight and Stalwart’ Battalion. You never failed me, while always impressing me with what you did – both in training and while deployed. You are the strength of our nation and our future, and it has been my highest honor to lead you,” said Kinsey in his final farewell.

“To the Soldiers of the [Straight and] Stalwart Battalion, as expected, you look great out there. You are the reason I continue to serve and I look forward to leading this great team of warriors,” said Clarke as he thanked everyone.

Clarke joins the Bulldog Brigade from U.S. Central Command’s J3 Special Activities (Counter-Terrorism, Unconventional Warfare and Personnel Recovery) section at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
