The usual aggressiveness found in most competitive sports was put aside as Fort Bliss Soldiers competed in the annual mini golf tournament Aug. 20.
The two-day tournament was held at Kelly Park, where finalists from C Battery, 2nd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery; E Btry., 3rd Bn., 43rd ADA; and 31st Combat Support Hospital competed for points for the coveted commander’s cup.
Teams registering for the event received 10 points per person, with 50 being the maximum toward the Commander’s Cup. The winning team received an additional 25 points, while everyone was hoping to do their best. Teams from 11th ADA Brigade included Team Dog Pound from E Btry., 3-43; teams Rich and Ramrod from 2-43; and Team Proud from 31st CSH.
Representatives from Team Bliss sports and fitness staff began the event by splitting up groups into two-man teams at the start of the tournament. After scorecards were passed out to the participants, they took to the course.
The day was a fun-filled, lighthearted competition between players, as laughter could be heard from across the park.
Col. Edward Manning, the Fort Bliss garrison commander, presented the awards. With 224 points, the third-place trophy was awarded to Team Proud. Second-place trophies went to Team Rich, with 217, leaving Team Dog Pound the winners with 213 points.
“I’m ecstatic for my team,” said Eric O’Donnell of E Btry., 3-43 ADA. “It was a group effort. I’m proud to bring the trophy home to 3-43.”
