Fort Bliss Command Sergeant Major
Today, our men and women remain engaged in persistent conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as supporting various contingency operations across the globe. The sacrifices they and their families make are beyond quantifiable. It is the responsibility of our leaders to ensure they are provided a quality of life commensurate with their service to this great nation. Housing our Soldiers and their families is a top priority of this command and directly reflects their quality of life. Team Bliss is constantly working to improve our facilities and services to ensure the needs of our personnel are met with high quality and service.
Housing at Fort Bliss is one of several priorities and concerns for our incoming personnel. We are doing everything we can to make sure our Soldiers’ and families’ needs are met.
Each day housing improvements are being made at Fort Bliss. It is an evolving process that unfortunately takes time. With the assistance of our sister city, we are convinced the housing needs of our Soldiers and their families are being met and will continue to be met.
Fort Bliss received an additional $48 million to build 202 junior-enlisted town homes currently under construction with a projected completion in November 2011. East Fort Bliss is one of several locations being considered for the additional housing units as well.
Together with the city of El Paso, we are addressing any current or future housing needs of our troops and their family members. The city also has a plan in place to account for the housing needs of our personnel.
Make no mistake, we have work to do, but our focus and priority is on our families and their needs, especially when it comes to housing. Platoon sergeants, I encourage you to guide your Soldiers to the housing office, and ensure they are provided the time needed to take care of their housing needs.
